While everyone is gearing up towards the 2018 World Series of Poker, it is interesting to look back on some of the most profitable poker players so far this year. These are the players who have raked in the most winnings to date, and how their performances have been over the past five month period.
With winnings of $8,907,138 this year, Justin Bonomo has been on a clear winning streak that does not seem to be slowing down yet. Winning a hefty sum of almost $9 million over 15 different tournaments, the player won five of these events and made appearances at final tables in almost all of the others.
Half of Bonomo’s winnings from live tournaments stemmed from his first-place finish at the HK2m Chinese Super High Roller Bowl. The pro player beat 75 seasoned contenders, collecting a whopping $4,823,077. He also won the Lucky Hearts Poker Open High Roller event, the EPT Monte Carlo €25,000 No-Limit Hold’em, and the EPT Monte Carlo €25,000 Single Re-Entry tournament.
Coming in a close second is Jason Koon, with $6,837,091 in winnings. The pro has won high roller events on two different continents over the span of a week this year, beating 103 entrants in the HK1m Triton Super High Roller Montenegro event and winning a huge prize of over $3.56 million.
Days later, Koon won another million-dollar prize at the Aria $100K High Roller game of the WPT Tournament of Champions Festival at Aria Casino, pocketing $1,039,940 in winnings. Koon has won in seven events since the start of 2018, as well as topping the field and claiming $421,080 at the $25k No Limit Hold’em PCA.
Next is Stephen Chidwick, a UK player with $5,906,441 in winnings under his belt so far this year. The pro has finished in the money in 15 events in 2018, winning many of them in the process. He kicked off the year with wins in two US Poker Opens, as well as topping a $25k Aria High Roller tournament for $300,000 in prizes. He also collected two million-dollar wins from the partypoker MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona festival in April.
Patrik Antonius and Jake Schindler have also earned special mentions for their performances this year. With winnings of $4,537,936 and $4,411,041 respectively, both players have taken down numerous tournaments in China, Germany and the US to claim millions in prize pots at the Super High Roller Bowl China, the partypoker MILLIONS Germany event, and the partypoker MILLIONS Grand Final Barcelona.
